Café de la Paix is one of the most famous café-brasseries in Paris, at 5 Place de l’Opéra in the 9th arrondissement, directly facing the Opéra Garnier. Open since 1862 and part of the InterContinental Paris Le Grand, it is a Belle Époque landmark whose gilded, frescoed dining room has welcomed writers, artists and visitors for more than a century and a half.

## What to expect at Café de la Paix

The kitchen serves classic French brasserie cooking from breakfast through to late dinner, so you can come for coffee and pastries, a full lunch, afternoon tea or an evening meal. The ornate, listed interior — designed in the style of Charles Garnier — is as much a reason to visit as the food, and the terrace offers prime people-watching opposite the opera house. It is touristy and priced for its setting, but the history and grandeur are genuine.
