Just got back from my first trip to Paris, and wow, what an experience! I spent six amazing days soaking in the sights, sounds, and flavors of this iconic city. Here are some of my heartfelt impressions and tips for anyone planning their first-time adventure in the City of Light.
First off, let’s talk about the people. I had this preconceived notion about Parisians being rude or standoffish, but that couldn’t be further from the truth! Sure, you might come across the occasional grumpy individual (we all have bad days, right?), but overall, I found folks to be incredibly polite and genuinely helpful.
A simple “excuse me” or “bonjour” in French opened doors to friendly interactions. I learned that just trying to speak their language goes a long way, and many locals were eager to help me out with my French.

Now, onto the nitty-gritty of getting around. The metro? Absolute lifesaver! With the RATP apps, navigating the city was a breeze.
I even found that I could use Apple Pay to purchase tickets—bye-bye, cash hassle! And while the metro is efficient, don’t underestimate the beauty of walking. There’s so much to see at eye level that you’d miss if you’re solely underground.
Then there’s the Louvre—a must-see for any first-timer. I highly recommend getting there early; I was practically first in line and got a few precious moments with the famous Mona Lisa.
Trust me, being among the very first visitors makes all the difference. I did notice that large tour groups can be a bit of a nuisance. If they not-so-subtly push you out of the way, just remember you’re there too and don’t be afraid to assert your right to see the art!

Another cool tip: I bought the Paris Museum Pass and oh boy, was it worth it! With entry to various sites including the Arc de Triomphe and D’Orsay, I skipped countless lines and saved both time and money. Seriously, if you plan to see several attractions, snagging that pass will save you headaches down the line.
Food-wise, Paris did not disappoint! Don’t stress about finding the “best” places; sometimes it’s fun to randomly pop into a café and indulge in whatever deliciousness is on offer. You can always trust that even a hole-in-the-wall spot can lead to a magical culinary experience. Just keep an eye out for places with reasonable menu prices, and you’ll be golden!

Safety was another aspect I was initially concerned about. As a tall guy, I felt relatively aware of my surroundings and never felt unsafe. Just use common sense: keep an eye on your belongings, avoid flaunting valuables, and you should be just fine.
In summary, my time in Paris was incredible! It’s a clean, navigable city filled with so much to explore. The stereotypes about the French are, in many ways, overrated. Approach your journey with an open mind, and I promise you’ll be pleasantly surprised. Embrace the vibe, soak in the beauty, and indulge in the food—Paris is a place worth experiencing!
