Joséphine Chez Dumonet is a restaurants restaurant in the Array arrondissement of Paris.

Joséphine Chez Dumonet is one of the last great classic bistros on the Left Bank, at 117 Rue du Cherche-Midi in the 6th arrondissement. A Parisian institution since 1888, it serves generous, time-honoured French cooking in a beautifully preserved Belle Époque room of zinc, brass and etched glass. For many visitors it is the platonic ideal of the old-school Paris bistro.

What to expect at Joséphine Chez Dumonet

The kitchen leans into the classics: foie gras, beef bourguignon, confit de canard and the house’s celebrated boeuf bourguignon and Grand Marnier soufflé. Portions are famously hearty — many mains are available in half-sizes so you can leave room for dessert — and the wine list is deep and serious. Service is brisk and professional in the best bistro tradition, and the room hums at both lunch and dinner.
