Hey there! So, my best friend and I are gearing up for a little escapade to Paris, specifically staying in a cozy hostel right next to Gare du Nord. We’re both 22 and ready to dive into the Parisian vibe, but I’ve gotta admit, I’m feeling a tad anxious about it all.

Here’s the scoop: I’ve heard some folks mention that the area can have a bit of a rough edge at night. Coming from Montreal, I’m no stranger to living near a sketchy subway station (like just last week, there was a shocking incident that really hit close to home), and my friend’s from downtown Toronto, which, trust me, isn’t always a walk in the park either. So, you’d think we’d be tough enough to handle whatever comes our way, right?
But still, there’s this nagging sense of nervousness that’s creeping in. Maybe it’s the warning signs or the mysterious whispers about the Gare du Nord region after dark that got me second-guessing. I mean, we’re two young women traveling alone, and while we’re used to our urban jungles, Paris is a whole new ball game.

Another layer of concern is that my friend doesn’t speak French! We’ll be operating entirely in English, which sometimes makes me wonder if that will draw attention. Will we stick out like sore thumbs? Will we end up lost in translation? The thought is kind of funny but also a bit intimidating.
On the bright side, we’re both super excited to explore the city! I keep telling myself that every adventure has its risks, and sometimes, those little jitters can turn into amazing stories. Plus, who knows? Maybe our English will lead us to make new friends or have some unexpected encounters.
So here’s to our two days in Paris, a little nervous but pumped nonetheless! I’ll keep you all posted on our adventures at Gare du Nord. Let’s hope it’s full of laughter, good food, and maybe a sprinkle of mischief!
Until next time, wish us luck! 🥖✨
