Hey there, fellow travelers! So, you’ve landed in Paris, and the excitement is palpable. But, hang on—after a long 10-hour flight, jet lag is about to be your first French companion.

If you’re anything like my sister-in-law and her son, you might be feeling a tad disoriented, not to mention exhausted. But fear not! I’ve got some thoughts on how to introduce them to the City of Lights without overwhelming them on that first day.

First things first: luggage. Once you arrive, the plan is to drop off your bags in a secure location. Paris has several luggage storage services, and it’ll feel liberating to roam around without dragging suitcases along. Now, onto the fun stuff!

1. Café Culture

You can’t go wrong with a classic Parisian café visit. Find a charming spot with outdoor seating so that you can soak in the atmosphere while sipping a cappuccino or indulging in a croissant.

This will not only help them ease into the local vibe but will also give them a chance to recharge a bit. I mean, how French can you get, right?

2. A Gentle Stroll

After the café, a leisurely stroll along the Seine could be the perfect transition into Paris life. You could take them along the river, enjoying the picturesque views, and maybe even stop by a few bookshops. This way, they can get a feel for the city without too much strain.

3. Bateau Mouche

Given that you’re already thinking about the Bateau Mouche, it’s a fantastic idea! It’s a relaxed way to see some of the iconic sights from the water without the hassle of walking too much. Plus, your sister-in-law and nephew can enjoy the views while sitting down—a great way to ease them into the sights without wearing them out. Just be sure to check the schedule so you’re not left waiting too long.

4. Lunch Time

In Paris, the average cost of food per person per day is around €45. However, the city accommodates various budgets, allowing visitors to spend as little as €25 a day on meals or go all out with €65 a day for a more indulgent experience. Food prices and expenses will differ depending on individual tastes and preferences.

Don’t forget to grab a proper lunch! This is your chance to introduce them to classic French dishes. You could find a bistro that serves light fare or even try some street food. Crêpes, anyone? Sharing a meal is not only essential for refueling but also a great way to bond over new experiences.

5. Easy Sightseeing

Once lunch is out of the way, think about some easy sightseeing options. Heading to a famous yet less bustling area like the Tuileries Garden can provide a perfect mix of relaxation and picturesque scenery. A quick visit to a couple of nearby iconic spots, like the Louvre (even just to admire the pyramid from the outside), keeps the excitement alive without exhausting them.

As the day continues, keep an eye on their energy levels. The key is to balance seeing the sights with allowing for plenty of breaks. Remember, the goal is to give them a taste of Paris without making them feel rushed or overwhelmed!

So, take a deep breath, ease them in, and enjoy the start of their Parisian adventure together. They’re going to love it! Bon voyage!
